Step 3 Skills in Emerging TechnologyThis is a featured page

Welcome to Step 3 - Our Focus for this step is on Images/photos

Image tools on the web
There are many ways to engage with images online. We will explore just some of them.. but if you have an image tool that you like to use then don't hesitate to tell us about it in the discussion thread below.

We will explore 3 image tools
Image tools in Wetpaint: You can have fun with Pictures in this Wetpaint website - not only uploading photos but also adding an album so it appears as a slide show on any page. (Here's an example to the right)
Flickr www.flickr.com is an online photo album. See more comments on our Flickr photo album page Flickr is Viv's favourite website for sharing her images with family, friends and the world.
Many sites require images to be a certain size. You can use Resizr www.resizr.com as a way of changing your images.
There are many more image tools that you can have fun with... You might like to try Extra activities section or explore our Image tools under Technology Tools in the left side menu.

Hint: You may find it helpful to print this page so you can tick off your tasks as you complete them (if you think you can manage without doing this then do save on paper and don't print)

E-tivities

E-tivities to aim to achieve ...

  1. Let's explore... Check out the Photo Gallery in this website (In the tool bar across the top of the page) Look at the albums and images currently on the site.
  2. Add a photo of your own to our photo gallery here in our website. Consider a photo that relates to an album topic. (See steps on how to add photos to an album) Hint: You may find that some websites require particular sized images. A useful free website is www.resizr.com that allows you to resize photos. What is great about this website is that you don't need to join it! So no passwords Yay!!!
  3. Select a photo or album to add to your Technology E-Portfolio page (You should have created your own technology e-portfolio in Step 2 if you haven't
Steps on how to add a photo or slideshow to your page (Basic steps you can adapt for a single image too)
    1. Select Easy Edit
    2. Select the Photo icon in the Easy Edit Tool bar
    3. From the window that pops up... select the link 'slideshow' ( top right hand corner of the pop up window.)
    4. You should now see a grey image that looks like cog wheels... Select SAVE to see the slideshow or image that you added.
as yet see Emerging technology Student Portfolios) See steps in box to the right.
  4. Another great tool for sharing and storing photos online is a website called www.flickr.com . Explore Flickr. Use the Search on flickr to check out photos on various topics such as 'sustainability' and 'esustain08' (The latter is photos tagged by people in this project) Why not check out other interesting image topics of your choice.
  5. There are many things to explore with images so if you want to try some more things with images then why not try the 'Extra Tasks' section below. (These are optional)
  6. Reflect on your learning and discoveries from this step in your own Technology e-portfolio

As part of Step 3 E-tivities you are lead into exploring wetpaint images and slide shows, Flickr photo albums and Resizr. There were a few more you could explore but hey you can't do them all!!! In fact you might even have some other tools you like using when 'playing' and working with images.

So my big question is which image tools do you like? Were any of them useful to you?

Cheers Viv
